The DfE & The TSIA

The Trans-Atlantic Schools Innovation Alliance was a Department for Education project that sought to connect schools in the UK with schools in the USA for mutual exchange of information, ideas and expertise.

Gemin-i set up a TSIA ‘Tribe’ community in order to facilitate teacher-teacher collaboration on educational materials and work-plans, provide a hub of interactive TSIA project activities and action research information, and enable students to interact with jointly produced learning materials.

The ability to engage in video conference calls, jointly edit documents and share files with the community were key to the running of the project and Gemin-i’s moderation service meant that teachers could involve their students in the collaborative teaching and learning process online.

Tony Blair Faith Foundation (TBFF)

The Tony Blair Faith Foundation uses education and multi-faith action to address extreme poverty. The Foundation required an online community website for their ‘Face to Faith’ project.

Gemin-i set up a Face-To-Faith Tribe community to enable TBFF members around the world to communicate with each other via safe and moderated discussion forums, internal e-mail and instant chat services; and to access a host of Face To Faith content to inspire their discussions. They even linked their network with Gemin-i’s Rafi.ki community in order to enable their members to engage in interfaith dialogue with thousands of Rafi.ki members around the world.

The service that Gemin-i offered, in terms of e-safety, content and community management, and technical assistance meant that TBFF could be as ‘hands-off’ or ‘hands-on’ as they wished, with the assurance that their community would always be looked after.

Cambridge International Examinations

CIE were looking for a way to launch their new ‘Global Perspectives’ iGCSE with a bang.

Gemin-i used their online learning community, Rafi.ki, to organise a ‘Global Perspectives’ event, which took the form the form of a cross-time zone lesson-plan relay involving teachers all over the world delivering iGCSE lesson plans in tandem. The one-day event was a great success and launched CIE’s iGCSE programme in style.

The Enterprise Education Trust

Enterprise Education empowers young people to realise their potential through business and enterprise.

Gemin-i has provided Enterprise Education with an ‘Achievers International’ forum on the Rafi.ki site, to promote discussion around the trust’s ‘Achievers International’ project. A Tribe forum on the Gemin-i’s Rafi.ki site is providing Enterprise Education with opinions and programme suggestions from thousands of young people around the world – and increasing visibility amongst potential participants in the process!

SIREN

The conservation education charity, SIREN, needed a way to bring an interactive element to their project materials and required a low-cost and hassle-free way to disseminate these materials globally.

Gemin-i was able to help SIREN adapt their educational resources for online use, add exciting interactive and multi-media components and disseminate these materials to thousands of students and educators worldwide. This optimised student and teacher engagement with the resources, enabled SIREN to collect completed project-work and participation statistics, and all the while complying with SIREN’s environment and conservation principles by cutting down on printed project packs.

For this reason, partners are not seen as distinct from Gemin-i’s internal teams, but as part of the Gemin-i family – or Gemin-i Tribes.

Our Tribes partnership programme is all about providing the technology, expertise and network of schools to help other organisations and companies working with educators and young people to establish or enhance their online initiatives. We aim to do this in a number of different ways, from hosting partners’ project resources on our online learning community, Rafi.ki, to building brand new online community websites for those who want their own version of Rafi.ki!

Our Tribe projects are varied and each has developed in a unique manner as Gemin-i itself has grown and transformed. To find out how join our family of Tribes, click on the ‘Inquire’ tab, or email tribes@gemin-i.org

Or, to see examples of Gemin-i Tribe partnerships with organisations such as the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and Cambridge International Examinations, click the ‘Case Studies‘ tab.
